#AskLW – First Twitter Q&A Session of Sri Lanka’s top Civil Servant

Lalith Weeratunga, The Secretary to the President of Sri Lanka, held a Q&A session with Sri Lankan Twitter community – a milestone in SL social media usage.

The session, which was done using the Twitter hashtag #AskLW, was first advertised in a press release on 14th Friday from Presidential Spokesman and International Media Unit.

Our friend @gopiharan has created a collection of answers given and their questions here: http://bundlr.com/b/asklw. You can see to which questions has Mr. Weeratunga given answers. You can see all the questions – including unanswered ones – here:https://twitter.com/search/realtime?q=%23AskLW&src=hash

Social media team behind @PresRajapaksa Twitter account told that they would be releasing all the questions answered translated into both Sinhala and Tamil.

This is clearly a good step forward, and I hope this won’t taken back. It’d be great if Mr. Weeratunga can do this quite regularly – at least quarterly.

Groundviews has done a good analysis of the session, which can be found here: http://groundviews.org/2013/06/18/twitter-qa-with-lalith-weeratunga-secretary-to-the-president-of-sri-lanka/

The PayPal Issue.

Few months ago, I wrote on my personal blog how bad Sri Lankans need PayPal support to receive online payments (http://blog.budhajeewa.com/enable-receiving-money-to-sri-lanka-through-paypal/http://blog.budhajeewa.com/icta-and-cbsl-please-bring-paypal-full-support-to-sri-lanka/) . I even met Mr. Weeratunga personally at a meeting last year and raid the concern about PayPal there too (http://blog.budhajeewa.com/%E0%B6%A2%E0%B6%B1%E0%B7%8F%E0%B6%B0%E0%B7%92%E0%B6%B4%E0%B6%AD%E0%B7%92-%E0%B6%BD%E0%B7%9A%E0%B6%9A%E0%B6%B8%E0%B7%8A-%E0%B6%BD%E0%B6%BD%E0%B7%92%E0%B6%AD%E0%B7%8A-%E0%B7%80%E0%B7%93%E0%B6%BB/).

So I took the opportunity today to remind him about the issue and sent following tweet:

To which I got this reply:

Let’s hope we’ll get this within this year. :)
